“Loading in implant dentistry to accelerate prosthodontic treatment has been receiving increasing interest. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of an early controlled lateral loading (after 7 days) on the establishment of osseointegration by means of resonance frequency analysis. Two groups of six beagle dogs each were used. Group I had implants without loading. Group II had implants loaded with a new prototype compression abutment that created controlled semi-static loading. Loaded implants showed slightly better P505-15 clinical trial stability after 5 weeks of healing, but the difference was not significant. We concluded that controlled loading is beneficial to maintain, and even improve, stability during the early critical healing period. (C) 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.”
“The prevalence and clinical associations of recurrent (two or more symptomatic and medically documented in the previous 12 months) urinary selleck compound tract infections (UTIs) have not been subjected to comprehensive analysis in a large group of women with symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction.
A prospective study was conducted involving 1,140 women presenting for their initial urogynecological assessment.
The overall prevalence
of recurrent UTI was 19%. Significant positive associations of
recurrent UTI were: (1) nulliparity with a 3.7x (up to 50 years) increase over the prevalence for parous women and 1.8x (over 50 years); and (2) women with an immediate postvoid residual (PVR) over 30 ml, which is significant in women over 50 years.
The early learn more age decline (18-45 years) in the prevalence of recurrent UTI might be related to increasing parity. The later increase (over 55 years) was probably due to the increasing PVR effect superimposed on the nulliparity effect.”
“Low energy deposition of metal alloy nanoclusters is studied by molecular dynamics simulations. In a previous study, two mechanisms were introduced for epitaxial alignment of elemental clusters: The heating induced by the surface energy released upon impact and the thermally activated dislocation motion. In this study, these mechanisms are shown to dominate for Cu(3)Ag, Cu(3)Au, and Cu(3)Ni clusters as well. The question whether the alloyed nature of the system or the initial chemical ordering of the particles influences epitaxial alignment with a substrate is discussed. Chemical ordering is shown to have a negligible effect due to disordering occurring at the initial stages of deposition. (C) 2009 American Institute of Physics. [doi: 10.1063/1.3225910]“
