Also, a general left-lateralization was found being more pronounced during semantic processing. These findings line up with earlier imaging and lesion studies emphasizing a crucial role of the temporal
lobe for semantic word production, whereas phonemic processing seems to depend on intact frontal lobe function. (C) 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.”
“Post-natal incubator care represents an early specific environment that may affect the risk for major depression later in find more life. A subsample of 1212 young adults from the French-speaking general population of the region of Quebec were selected from an ongoing longitudinal study that started during their kindergarten years. Information on peri-natal Adriamycin ic50 condition, obstetrical complications and incubator care was collected by consulting hospital medical records. Participants were evaluated using DSM III-R based psychiatric assessment when they were 15 and 21 years old. Incubator care predicted an approximate two- to three-fold decreased risk for depressive disorder at age 21. Results from three different logistic models adjusting for family adversity and for maternal depression confirmed this relationship. Analyses were replicated for depression at age 15, showing the same association in female adolescents. This study suggests that post-natal incubator care may paradoxically decrease the occurrence
of Electron transport chain major depression later in life. This protective effect might be direct (through optimized biological, physiological and sensory parameters) or indirect (induction of specific parent-child
interactions due to the perception of their infant’s vulnerability). This study could enhance understanding of the links between early post-natal environment and affective disorders later in life. (c) 2007 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. All rights reserved.”
“Objective: Improved early and late outcomes of thoracic endovascular aortic repair compared with open repair have changed the therapeutic paradigm of thoracic aortic lesions. However, rare but serious complications due to device failure or adverse events may occur, requiring conversion to open repair.
Methods: In our experience, 186 patients underwent thoracic endovascular aortic repair. Seven of these patients (3.7%) required open repair because of 3 retrograde type A dissections, 1 thoracic stent-graft collapse, 1 aneurysm enlargement without endoleak, 1 aortoesophageal fistula, and 1 stent-graft infection. All patients but 1 underwent surgical repair using cardiopulmonary bypass. Four stent-grafts were totally removed, and 3 endografts were left in situ. Three patients underwent supracoronary ascending aorta replacement via a sternotomy. Three patients underwent a descending aortic replacement via a left thoracotomy.
