Eggs hatch in the intestines, and the hexacant embryos penetrate the intestinal mucosa, disseminate through the bloodstream, and lodge in muscle, soft tissue, and the central nervous system [1]. To develop new alternatives for serological NCC diagnosis, in 2009, our group used phage display biotechnology to find an amino acid sequence capable of identifying patients with NCC through indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). We have demonstrated that, after chemical synthesis, the peptide NC-1 (SKSSITITNKRLTRK), a mimotope of T. solium, induced a humoral response in mice, in which antibodies recognised proteins from the scolex region during immunohistochemical study [2].
