However, because our results did not show any improvement HSP phosphorylation in seizure susceptibility in prenatally MA-exposed animals that were fostered by control mothers (MA/C) relative to their siblings fostered by MA-treated mothers (MA/MA), our hypothesis of the cross-fostering effect seems
to be incorrect in contrast to our behavioral studies. (c) 2010 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.”
“Gemcitabine-associated thrombotic microangiopathy is being increasingly recognized as a serious complication of treatment. We report a normotensive patient who developed progressive hypertension after commencing gemcitabine therapy. She also developed subtle changes in her platelet count and serum creatinine months before her emergent presentation. Clinicians should be aware of new onset or worsening hypertension and ‘mild’ biochemical changes in gemcitabine-treated patients.”
“The solid equal channel angular extrusion (ECAE) process on polypropylene (PP)/organic montmorillonite (OMMT) was carried out. Scanning electron microscopy, NVP-LDE225 polarized optical microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction were used to observe and characterize the samples structures. Experimental results show that both PP spherulites and OMMT particles were significantly deformed
and orientated toward the shearing direction, and OMMT agglomeration particles were broken into needle-like primary particles, some even exfoliated into nanosilicate layers after twice ECAE processes due to the immense solid shear force. This solid process
approach introduces a new way to prepare PP/OMMT nanocomposites. The mechanism of exfoliation between PP and OMMT was also discussed. (C) 2011 Wiley Periodicals, selleck screening library Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 123: 2222-2227, 2012″
“Introduction and objectives: The available information regarding blood pressure control in women is scarce. This study was aimed at assessing blood pressure control and predictors of a lack of blood pressure control in the primary care setting in a large sample of hypertensive women.
Methods: Women aged 65 years or older with an established diagnosis of hypertension (>= 6 months of evolution) were included in a cross-sectional, multicenter study. Blood pressure readings were taken following the current guidelines, and the value for each visit was the average of two separate measurements. Adequate blood pressure control was defined as <140/90 mmHg (<130/80 mmHg for diabetics).
Results: A total of 4274 hypertensive women (mean age: 73.6 years [6.1 years]) were included in the study; blood pressure was controlled in 29.8% (95% confidence interval: 28.4%-31.1%) of the study population. Combined therapy was administered in 67.6% of patients (46.3% with 2 drugs and 21.7% with 3 or more drugs). The most common organ damage was left ventricular hypertrophy (33.8%) and the most common associated condition was heart failure (19%).
